Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation(TENS)
The electrical impulses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal cord and brain, which may help relieve pain and relax muscles. They may also stimulate the production of endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers.
Unlike TENS machines, which delivers intermittent pulses to stimulate surface nerves and block the pain signal, IFT machines deliver a continuous stimulation deep into the affected tissue. The stimulation both blocks pain and reduces swelling and inflammation which can cause pain.
It is an electrotherapy which has been used in physiotherapy practices for many years. It is mainly used for its non-thermal effect where high frequency sound waves cause vibrations and movement of cellular fluids. Used for localized pain
It uses a bath of molten paraffin wax, is one of the most effective ways of applying heat to improve mobility by warming the connective tissues. Wax therapy is mainly used on your hands and is often used by hand therapists in a hospital setting along with an exercise programme.
Hydro Collateral Pack (HCP)
The hydro-collator unit is a stainless steel tank in which silica gel packs are heated. Use to reduce pain due to muscle spasm and loosening of adhesion in post op stiffness .
Balance boards/ wobble boards
Balance boards/ wobble boards are used for Neurological patients especially in patients with Parkinsonism, ataxic patients to improve balance . It is also used for Sports injury/ post fracture patients to improve joint proprioception .
Traction machine used in cases of Neck pain and back pain . This machine helps to reduce intradiscal pressure and reduce pressure on nerve root , hence reduce radiating pain.
